Sports Chaplaincy South Africa (SCZA) exists to serve the sporting community through care, presence and purpose.
Our Mission
To identify, train, appoint and guide dedicated chaplains to serve the sporting community at all levels across South Africa.
Our Vision
To serve South Africa’s sporting community through providing excellent care and mentoring.
Our History
SCZA was established as part of a growing global movement of sports chaplaincy, drawing insight and partnership from countries where chaplaincy is well established, including the UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand.
Bruce Nadin, a former chaplain of Leicester City Football Club, was pastoring in South Africa and he saw the need for spiritual input in the lives of sports people. A small Bible study was started with various players. As time went along Bruce sensed God’s calling to begin Chaplaincy work amongst the sporting community of South Africa. What began then as a pioneering effort has grown into a developing national network of chaplains serving across multiple sporting codes and levels.
With guidance from international partners and a deep understanding of the South African context, SCZA continues to build a sustainable and impactful presence in sport.
Our vision is simple: To see every sporting environment in South Africa supported by trained, caring chaplains who prioritise people above performance.
What We Do Today
